Updates for

Consultations on Upwork

During the last month, there were 2 small updates for consultations on Upwork. Let’s see what changed?

For the last 30 days half of the clients see a different consultations details page. The description is now at the top of the page together with next available dates for a consultation, information about the freelancer, their rating and location. In addition, FAQs and steps to prepare clients for a consultation are now outlined on the page.

Consultations Follow-Ups was introduced only 9 days ago.

Half of all the freelancers are included in the test. After a consultation meeting you will see a banner with 2 options: propose a new contract or schedule a follow-up message.

  • If you chose to propose a new contract you will be redirected to the existing contract creation flow.

  • When you chose to follow-up, you can write a message to the client and schedule a date and time for it. If you want to change or cancel the message later, it’s available in the workroom.

Both for the freelancer and the client a consultation is a great way to start cooperation. The client will be able to check if the freelancer has the required expertise and communication skills without diving into a bigger project right away.

And for the freelancer it’s a great tripwire - offering leads a low-cost product with the intention of selling them more expensive products later. Tripwire marketing is a common practice intended to increase first customer acquisition and Upwork has given freelancers a great functionality to use it.

The two updates are rather minor, but they indicate that Upwork is aiming to promote the Consultations actively. So, if you are still not giving consultations, we suggest to go ahead and try.
