How many connects

does it cost to apply

for a job on Upwork

Last month we made a post about the increased number of connects required to apply for a job on Upwork. Back then, we hoped Upwork came to its senses and cancelled 16-connects increase. Unfortunately, the story continues, and we believe it deserves another post.

So, how many connects does it cost now to apply for a job on Upwork?

We’ve analyzed over 50 job posts and the current price to apply for a job varies from 2 to 16 connects.

What is the logic behind the exact number it takes?

Well, here it’s not so clear. We’ve analyzed job posts in design, development, copywriting and marketing based on basic data: experience level, hourly rate or fixed price, and client credibility.

While there are obvious cases where a job post for entry level from a client with unverified payment method is 2 connects. Or an expert development position with $20-$40 hourly rate will be 16 connect. This is understandable.

But, at the same time, there are several entry level $10-$20/hour job posts that demand 12-16 connects even though some of them have an unverified payment method as well.

What’s the conclusion?

While we still are (as many other freelancers in Upwork community or even on Reddit) very disturbed with the Upwork’s tendency to make it more and more expensive to work on the platform, at least it’s very good that they widened the range to 2-16 connects.

It seems more expensive job posts are here to stay and if you want to find a good opportunity, you’ll have to pay 12-16 connects for it. But also it’s quite possible to find decent jobs at 6-8 if you don’t want to pay too much.
