Last month Upwork announced an update - Upwork Recruiter Services for Clients. Here is what they changed and why it’s not such a good news for freelancers.
After first-time clients post their first job in Marketplace, they now see a banner advertising recruitment services for a $59 fee. If they agree, they will schedule a call with the recruiter to discuss their needs and then receive a shortlist of 3-5 freelancers within 2 business days.
But here's the catch. This update could mean there's a middleman (or middlewoman!) between the client and freelancer. And that can get in the way of clear communication. Plus, we've noticed from the experience that sometimes the recruiters on Upwork don't have a great understanding of what makes a good fit between a freelancer and a job. So it might not be the best news for freelancers.
Overall, the update to Upwork's Recruiter Services is a mixed bag. It may be useful for some clients, but freelancers should be aware of the potential impact on their communication with clients. As with any new feature or change on the platform, it's important to stay informed and adapt accordingly.
