In our December post we wrote "Upwork calculates 3 separate Job Success Scores (JSS) (for 6-, 12-, and 24-month periods). Best one displays in the profile." Last week Upwork shared another data point that they use to calculate JSS - Trending JSS.
Trending JSS = average JSS for the past 6 months + average JSS for the past 3 months, then divided in half. After all the calculations, Upwork shows the best in the profile (either 24, 12, 6, or Trending JSS).
We played a bit with the numbers and here is the ultimate output from this information:
If during the last 3 months the freelancer has been doing great – the JSS will be high. Does it mean that the freelancer is showing great results consistently over the last 2 years though? No.
If the freelancer has started to perform badly recently (which you definitely want to know if you are considering to hire now) – JSS will not tell you this because it will show up the results from Freelancer’s past jobs for up to 2 years.
