Digital Nomad Day.

Opportunities for Ukrainians

in 2022

How can we continue to work helping our country at the same time feel safe and secure for our life and for our loved ones? For many IT experts or other freelance specialists the solution could be becoming a digital nomad.

Today is a Digital Nomad Day, so we've made a list of digital nomad destinations for in Europe. But first, let’s explain in a few words what a digital nomad is if the term is new to you.

But first, let’s explain in a few words what a digital nomad is if the term is new to you.

A digital nomad is a remote worker who travels from country to country, living there several months or even a year. Many states have Digital nomad visas, allowing these people to legally live and work in the country. Most common requirements include proof of employment, sufficient funds (varies for each country), rent proof, and a health insurance coverage.

  • Croatia launched a visa programme for digital nomads in 2021. Foreign digital nomads are not subject to pay income tax in Croatia for 1 year.

  • The Czech Republic offers a special business visa for digital nomads from outside the EU that nomads can use for up to 1 year.

  • Estonia allows foreign nationals to work in the country for up to 1 year for their own business registered abroad or in a remote position for a foreign employer.

  • Germany has 2 types of freelance visas: one for artists and one for other professionals. Digital nomads must register with the German tax office. Freelancers must have clients based in Germany.

  • Digital nomad visa for Greece is valid for up to 12 months. Before the visa expires, the holder can apply for a Digital Nomad residence permit to stay longer.

  • Hungary has a residency permit for digital nomads – the White Card. It is valid for up to 1 year, with the option to extend it for another year.

  • Iceland allows foreign citizens to work remotely in Iceland for foreign companies for up to 180 days.

  • The digital nomad visa for Malta is issued for 1 year and can be renewed.

  • Portugal has a temporary resident visa that can be used by freelancers and entrepreneurs. It allows its holder to stay in the country for longer than 1 year and can be extended. Also, it can be used as a pathway to permanent residency.

  • Romania too has  tarted implementing a digital nomad visa. But, same as in Greece, you’ll need at least €3.500 monthly revenue.

  • Norway has a unique visa for digital nomads who wish to relocate to the Svalbard islands. Norway’s digital nomad visa remains valid for the entirety of the traveller’s life. Make sure you find these islands on map and google the weather before applying though 😀
