Not long ago, everyone feared FOMO (fear of missing out), but now they seek JOMO (joy of missing out). This shift shows that digital detox is becoming popular as a way to escape information overload.

Digital detox is a conscious decision to take a break from gadgets, social media, and the internet for a set period. The goal is to restore balance, reduce stress, and improve mental health. Regular "digital breaks" help you focus on real life, connect with loved ones, enjoy hobbies, and relax. Studies show that offline living reduces anxiety, improves sleep, attention, and memory.

How to Know When You Need a Digital Detox?

  1. You constantly grab your phone and feel FOMO, needing to stay updated on everything.
  2. Your productivity and focus drop because you keep checking emails, messages, etc., even during important tasks.
  3. You crave new experiences, content, and information online, feeling like something’s missing.
  4. You spend more time online instead of having real interactions with friends and family.
  5. You experience insomnia or disrupted sleep due to gadget use before bed.

For digital industry professionals, completely giving up gadgets seems unrealistic since it’s their source of income. However, partial digital detox is both possible and necessary. The key is to find an optimal balance between work and offline rest. You can limit gadget use in the evenings, on weekends, or during vacations. Understanding the benefits of a “digital diet” and proactively implementing it is crucial.

No one is asking you to cut off all information at once, which could also be stressful. We suggest thoughtful co-existence with technology, not complete abandonment. Start with one or two simple habits, then add more. You can create your own rules!

  1. Use “Do Not Disturb” mode during work hours to block non-priority app notifications.
  2. Set up a notification system with different priority levels:
    • Highest priority (urgent messages) – with sound and on the lock screen.
    • Medium priority (important but not urgent) – without sound but on the lock screen.
    • Low priority (informative) – without sound and not on the lock screen.
    • Disable notifications for secondary apps.
  3. Use “Focus Modes” in iOS to block distractions during important tasks.
  4. Create “no-screen zones” at home, where gadget use is forbidden (bedroom, dining area, etc.).
  5. Plan regular “digital detox” periods after work and on weekends.
  6. Monitor app usage time with built-in tools (Battery, Screen Time in iOS).
  7. Turn off all notifications in the evening and avoid gadgets 1-2 hours before bed.
  8. Don’t check gadgets immediately after waking up; give yourself 30-60 minutes for an analog start to the day.
  9. During important events (meetings, sports, etc.), completely turn off gadgets or switch to airplane mode.
  10. Replace online entertainment with hobbies, sports, or outdoor activities.

Healthy gadget use: Don’t deny their benefits, but limit interaction time.
