Freelancer Job Referrals

On Upwork

In late March Upwork began beta testing its new feature which enables freelancer job referrals. Apparently, the opportunity was received well, because starting June 28 Freelancer Job Referrals are now available to ALL freelancers.

What are Job Referrals?

Upwork goal for Freelancers Job Referrals' is to help freelancers obtain work best suited for their expertise, spread opportunityб and help clients gain high quality talent for their jobs. This will help to grow professional networks and relationships on Upwork.

The best result of Job Referrals is that the referred freelancers can now communicate personally with the clients because they receive a direct invite. This way, every customer can have a fresh start with the freelancers who suits his purposes the best way. And Freelancers do not have to spend connects for applying to the job.

How does it work for the freelancer?

Now on page of the Invitation to Interview, next to the Accept and Decline buttons, there is an option to refer a freelancer. For this a freelancer needs either to paste their profile URL or the email address associated with an Upwork account.

Freelancers can find all referrals later on My proposals page. The action taken by the freelancer you refer will have no impact on your profile.

How does it work for the client?

When a freelancer is referred for a job invite, the client will see a “Referred” status and the name of the referring freelancer. Otherwise, the information clients see stays the same.

In Etcetera we make sure that all our referrals are relevant. We analyze the job description and based on our team expertise find best possible fit.

In this case, there is no need to create a group chat, make formal introductions, or act as an intermediary if you want to connect a client with another freelancer. We find it super convenient!

Have you tried this feature yet? We would love to hear what you think about it.
