Notifications for Violating Terms of Service on Upwork

How many of Upwork freelancers have read the whole Terms of Service (ToS)? While we highly recommend doing it (you’ll find many interesting things you didn’t know about), to be honest, only a few have even opened that section of the page.

And until recently you had no way of knowing if you were violating anything. That is until you log into your account one day and it’s blocked. Also, there was no procedure on fixing the problem before it’s too late.

Today we are excited to tell you about a recent update about Violating Terms of Service on Upwork!

Starting August 22, all Upwork users get notifications if they violated ToS. There are two types of notifications: your account can be either warned or restricted.

But the best thing about such notifications is that they offer you to fix the violation right now and provide guidance on how to do it.

After you click “let’s fix the problem”, you will see more details about the actual terms you violated, so you can understand what actions caused the notifications.

You will then have two options:

  1. I understand and want to fix this. If you choose this option you will need to check a box saying you’ve actually read ToS and understand that Upwork might block you permanently if you do the same thing again.

  2. I think this is a mistake. I’d like to talk to someone. If you don’t think you violated anything, you will be forwarded to My requests page, where you can open a new request and try to convince Upwork team you didn’t violate anything.

We think it’s one of those updates that really bring value to Upwork users.
